Our client was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.  Charged alongside 2 others.  This was alleged to be a county lines drugs case with the defendants from London but arrested in the Brighton area.  Due to our client’s previous convictions he faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 7 years imprisonment if convicted.

The defendants were stopped by police in the Brighton area following suspicious behaviour.  Upon being stopped one of the defendants sought to evade arrest and between them they were found to be in possession of a quantity of cash,  quantity of Class A drugs, and mobile phones.  The Crown suggested that messages on a mobile phone found in our client’s possession was suggestive of Class A drugs dealing.  Our client’s case was that he was in the area for personal reasons and had no involvement in drug dealing.  He gave an explanation for the cash found on his person and denied sole use of the relevant mobile phone.

Not Guilty Verdict

Following a 5-day trial at Lewes Crown Court the defendant was found not guilty. Amy Cox was the solicitor who acted on this case. Arlette Piercy of 25 Bedford Row was instructed.
