Unanimous acquittal of four serious sexual allegations

After a 5-day trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, our client was unanimously found not guilty by a jury to all four counts.

Our client was charged with two counts of sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault, and rape.

Serious Allegations

It was alleged that our client had sexually assaulted and raped a work colleague in 2019. It was our client’s defence that these acts were consensual.

Had our client been convicted, he would have faced a significant prison sentence which could have entered into double figures. Our client can now maintain his good character given this acquittal.

It was alleged that our client firstly groped the complainant at work. It was then said that after having met up following a shift, the two went to a nearby park where it was alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted her by penetration. The two met up again, and it is was alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted and raped her in a children’s playground.

Our Work

Our work included combing through hours of unused material to find contradictions in the prosecution case. We were also provided with our client’s phone from the relevant time. This was thoroughly checked to make sure that the messages presented by the Prosecution were an accurate reflection of the messages sent from the phone.

The transcript of our client’s police station interview provided by the Prosecution had many mistakes which meant that our client’s explanation and defence was not as clearly conveyed. We therefore submitted rigorous edits to the transcript to make sure that it accurately reflected the defence that he put forward in interview. This was important as it is the earliest stage a client can put forward a defence, and showed consistency in our client’s testimony throughout his case, which remained the same testimony at his trial.

Our client was elated with the case and commented the following:

'I just want to thank you all so much. A big special thanks to the best barrister ever, she really fought in that court room. She's a boss!'
