Successful Diminished Responsibility Plea

Our client was charged with the murder of his mother. He was transferred to hospital days after charge.

This case raised many questions regarding his previous care. The defendant had been bought back to the family home having been discharged by a hospital that morning when his mother was killed.

The case involved the instruction of experts by the prosecution and defence.

The prosecution eventually agreed to accept a plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and the defendant was sentenced to a Hospital Order with restrictions.
