Amy Cox is a Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year 2024 Finalist

We are incredibly pleased to share that Amy Cox, our Head of Crown Court, is a finalist for the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards 2024 in the Criminal Defence category. 

CEO Chris Minnoch has said that, "The standard of entries was exceptional and is a testament to the resilience, professionalism and sheer humanity of those on the social justice front line." 

Sonn Macmillan Walker are incredibly pleased with Amy's nomination and recognition of her tireless hard work. She is meticulous with her cases and cares deeply for each of her clients. Amy is adept in a broad range of criminal defence, acting in cases ranging from serious organised crime involving Encrochat evidence, to serious sexual allegations, to Insolvency service and Environmental Agency prosecutions. 

Amy has also made waves with her work with Women In Criminal Law, as a founding member in 2018, current Vice-Chair, and Head of Mentoring. It is an organisation which looks to promote, support and encourage women working in the criminal justice system. Amy is a strong advocate for supporting women in this field, given that a high proportion of at SMW are female.

Amy also inspires the next generation of criminal defence lawyers, having trained multiple trainee solicitors who have gone on to succeed in the legal aid field. Phoebe Coleman, a solicitor in our Crown Court department, who has recently achieved her duty solicitor qualification, trained under Amy's guidance. Amy is also currently supervising two trainees, Katie Lobo and Annie Loh.
