Job Description

Sonn Macmillan Walker solicitors is looking for an enthusiastic, competent newly qualified Solicitor to join its financial crime department.

SMW is recognised by The Times as one of the Best Law Firms 2024 and ranked in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

All candidates for this position should have a demonstrable interest and aptitude for financial crime, including fraud and money laundering offences, confiscation and civil recovery proceedings.

The candidate will have a strong academic background, previous experience of working within a law firm, and good interpersonal skills.

The candidate will already be a Solicitor with at least 1-2 years PQE, be used to handling a caseload that includes both private and publicly funded matters and used to work effectively with minimal supervision.

The role will include:

  • Running a caseload comprising voluminous evidence.
  • Drafting detailed analysis documents.
  • Dealing with complex and novel legal issues.
  • Providing private client advice, including pre-charge.
  • Undertaking lower court advocacy as required.
  • Offering advice to clients in PACE interview.
  • Working efficiently as part of a team on larger cases.

To be applicable for this role, the ideal candidate must have Police Station and Duty Solicitor accreditation and be able to demonstrate with examples, the following:

  • Proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Analytical skills.
  • An ability to undertake high quality legal research.
  • Use of own initiative and working within a team where required.
  • An ability to work accurately under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Drafting and preparing legal documents: e.g., schedules, proofs, bundles, client instructions, witness statements and letters of representations.
  • Good interpersonal skills and smart appearance.
  • Flexible approach to assist/cover other positions and duties when required.

This role is for an immediate start full time at our Aldgate office.

Any salary offered will be competitive.
